Gateway
to the Great Barrier Reef & Offshore Fishing
Boyne Tannum is situated on the southern stretch (tip) of
the Great Barrier Reef, access is available from 3 boat ramps, 2 directly
access the Boyne River mouth & there is another over at Tannum
Sands that can access the wild cattle island inlet that allows access
through to the Coliseum where you can reach the offshore fishing spots
(note the Tannum Sands boat ramp is not well maintained & can only
give access on a high tide - so take care & not your big boat)
Reef Charters can also be arranged out of Gladstone Harbour.
Boyne River
Stretching from the base of the Awoonga Dam wall to the mouth of the river that
separates Boyne Island from the mainlands of Tannum Sands, directly on the
southern side of the river & the road way to Gladstone then onward North
along the Bruce Highway to Rockhampton. All types of species are caught including
Grunter, Barramundi, Bream, Whiting, Flathead & Mangrove
Jack. You possibly won't find a better boat ramp & trailer parking facility
in Queensland, along with great fish cleaning facility, toilets & general
park.
