The REEF

Great Barrier Reef

Red Emperor

Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef & Offshore Fishing
Boyne Tannum is situated on the southern stretch (tip) of the Great Barrier Reef, access is available from 3 boat ramps, 2 directly access the Boyne River mouth & there is another over at Tannum Sands that can access the wild cattle island inlet that allows access through to the Coliseum where you can reach the offshore fishing spots (note the Tannum Sands boat ramp is not well maintained & can only give access on a high tide - so take care & not your big boat) Reef Charters can also be arranged out of Gladstone Harbour.

About this Pair

Barramundi

This Saratoga was caught on a surface FIZZER on my 13th cast at a snag.... he hit the surface fizzer & leapt about 1 metre out of the water & gave a wonderful aerial display & fight on my light bait caster gear - Renowned Fishing Author "Phil Bennett" was on hand at the time to photographic this beautiful coloured species before I released him, the story was published in the The Australian - BARRA BASS & BREAM Digest issues no 15 2006 titled - A Week At Awoonga, starting on page 112. Article also see the video below posted on youtube in November 2006, great footage of lake awoonga big barra!!!
