Unfortunately this is true: yes most people can now use a word processor or some free web page editor/builder & put together what looks pretty cool, publish it to the web on some free space or pay for super cheap domains & web hosting and mash their way through the monster to come up with what really, in the end "is a disaster"! It's not unless we stick with it for a few years of study and hands on that we realise just how bad and broken our first sites really were...... see the Web Sites that SUCK check list.
Did they think to check how the site looks across 10 different monitor sizes & resolution settings, or see it fall apart like a bad word document in one of the many browsers, ie. Internet Explorer 4, 5, 6 , and now 7, then there is FIREFOX, Netscape, Opera.. the list goes on.... to include Windows 98, XP, Vista, Mac's & Linux operating systems & what happens to those javascript's if it's disabled in someone's browser.......can a blind person or impaired person actually make any sense out of your site with their text reader?
Web design is really a lot more complex than most people think, it's not just a one way journey, there is loads of things to consider & YEP, years of study & practice before you can place the very heavily used term "WEBMASTER" against your name. After all, my understanding of any type of Master is just THAT.... they know their stuff virtually inside out. But I see it time and time again, virtual WEBBUTCHERS, I guess we have to start somewhere, will you risk it?
